Bamboo pellet machine and wood pellet machine are collectively referred to as biomass pellet machine. Today we are introducing a bamboo pellet machine, which can be used to make bamboo pellets. Bamboo pellets are generally used for household heating, boiler heating and biomass power plants.

Bamboo pellets are pellets that made of bamboo stalks, leaves and powders or other bamboo products. Usually, the bamboo or bamboo products should be crushed into powders first, the we adjust the moisture of bamboo pellets, and put the powder into the bamboo pellet mill or we can call it bamboo pellet machine, ring die pellet mill, biomass pellet machine etc.

Bamboo pellets are usually made of bamboo leaves, stalks and recycling of bamboo powders after the production of other bamboo products. This is done by crushing bamboo into powder and then pressing it together into small pellets with 6 -12 mm. The whole process of making bamboo pellets is similar to other biomass pellets production such as sawdust pellets, wood pellets, rice husk pellets and others. The pellets can be made for small scale household use and large scale commercial use. Bamboo pellet machine is divided into ring die pellet machine and flat die pellet machine according to the output. For commercial production, large-volume and high-quality production, ring die pellet machines are preferred.

Bamboo is a natural choice for biomass energy production. Bamboo is a member of grass family though they are woody in nature. There are here are about 1250 species of bamboo in the world with a height of 10-40 cm (Scurlock et al., 2000). Bamboo can be harvested 4 times in a year and with millions and millions hectares world widely, which means bamboo is potentially a kind of sustainable biomass fuel.

Bamboo Pellets

Bamboo pellets are made of bamboo stalks, bamboo leaves and recycling bamboo powders after production of other bamboo products, by crushing the bamboo into powder and pressing together into pellets with 6-12mm length. Bamboo pellets deliver extremely high BTU's and low ash content, and they are a reliable, cost-effective and environment-friendly source of energy for heating systems.

As clean bio-energy, bamboo pellets have better flow properties. Densification into pellets reduces material wastage and improves ease of transporting and storage. Bamboo Pellet’s Specification is as follows:

Density: >1.22kg/m3

Calorie: 4500-4800KCAL/KG (18.8-20MJ/kg)

Moisture: standard 8.7%, 9.6%max

Ash Content: standard 0.9%, 1.1%max

Kindly notice that moisture content and pellet size affects the physical and combustion properties of bamboo pellets. The effects of moisture content on bamboo pellet’s physical properties include length, diameter, pellet moisture content, unit density and bulk density. And some researches have proved that when moisture content is about 16% and pellet sizes mixed in the bamboo pellets manufacturing process id the optimum choice. On that condition, all properties of bamboo pellets could meet the requirement of Pellets Fuel Institute Standard Specification for Residential/Commercial Densified, and the gross calorific value of bamboo pellets could also meet the minimum requirement for making commercial pellets of DIN 51731 (>17500J/g), respectively. Bamboo pellets are the proposed new biomass solid fuel and had the potential to be development as commercial pellets.

How to Make Bamboo Pellets

Generally speaking, there are some essential pellet equipment you may need in a pellet production line. They are hammer mill, dryer, bamboo pellet mill, counterflow cooler, pellet packing machine.

Crushing. Screen the bamboo stalks and leaves from the impurities and hard objects, put the pure raw materials into the hammer mill and crush them into bamboo powder.

Drying. The airflow dryer or the drum dryer can help you to adjust the moisture content of the bamboo powder.

Pelletizing. A small roller-turned small pellet mill is enough while the ring-die pellet mill can process pellets in larger quantity.

Cooling. The counterflow cooler can cool the bamboo pellets efficiently. The pellets should be cooled after pelletizing. Or the high temperature pellets can't keep in shape.

Packing. After the whole process, you can pack the pellets by a pellet packing machine.
